Ranked is a chance to get to know our team with a listicle showcasing what makes them tick and in this edition, we’re introducing Jillian Nason. Jillian is also a vegan who shared her favourite local food markets to scour for tasty treats and high-quality ingredients.

“Since going plant-based in 2020, I’ve found that I’m popping into food stores all over Edmonton to fill my pantry with products that suits my dietary needs as well as my need for variety. After all, variety is the spice of life!” - Jillian N.

  1. Elsafadi Mediterranean Supermarket

I was introduced to Elsafadi’s several years ago and since then, it has been regular stop on my shopping circuit. There is so much to take in—from fresh and delicious olives (several varieties), tasty ajvar and hummus spreads to all kinds of fresh fruits and veg. This friendly, family-oriented grocery is one you’ll want to visit over and over.

  2. Argyll Foods Tienda Latina

They say it right on their website—spice up your world! A visit to this charming specialty food store will do just that. This little place is magical, and I absolutely love stopping there for sauces, spices and the friendly smiles. Did I mention they have freshly made delights like tamales and empanadas?

  3. H&W Produce

You’ll find these fantastic food stores dotted throughout Edmonton and I frequently swing by my local H&W in Capilano as it offers great prices on an impressive variety of fresh produce. They also have a vast selection of local, national and international products. Make sure to check out the freezer aisle on your next trip!

  4. Uproot Food Collective

Uproot was formed to connect local food companies with the people who love their products the most. There are SO many local food producers to be found in this unique food store setting and you can even order online for delivery or to pick up.

  5. Lucky Supermarket

I’ve been shopping at Lucky 97 Supermarket in Chinatown since moving to Edmonton over 15 years ago. They have a multitude of products to choose from as well as a friendly and helpful staff that are always ready to answer questions. I consider Lucky 97 my staple store and never leave without a solid basket full for my kitchen.
