Ranked by Ann: Edmonton’s Best Pasta Dishes
Ranked is a chance to get to know our team with a listicle showcasing what makes them tick. First up, strategist Ann Gordon-Tighe. With a unique cross-section of insight-based communications, public engagement and specialization in municipal affairs, she is a powerhouse... and we hate using that word, so you know it must be true.
Ann is also a pasta lover and has ranked her top five favourite dishes being served up across the city so that you too can load up on those brain-building carbohydrates.
“I’m by no means Edmonton’s most experienced gourmand, but I have sampled the pasta offerings of a lot of local gems (RIP Il Forno!). So, here’s my top five favourites.” - Ann G.
Sambuca Rose, Café Amore Bistro
Classic tomato and cream sauce blended with Sambuca liqueur. Family-owned Café Amore Bistro specializes in traditional Italian recipes with a modern flare and this dish is one that can’t be missed. Surprising, delightful, hearty – this pasta warms my heart and fills me with nostalgia.
Ricotta Gnocchi, Uccellino
While you won’t always find it on Uccellino’s menu, this fan favourite makes the top of my list. Mind-bending pillows of air and cheese that melt lovingly in your mouth; if I ever lose the ability to eat solids, I would be perfectly content subsisting on these delectable morsels.
Pappardelle, Buco Pizzeria & Vino Bar
While I don’t always go in for meat-heavy recipes, this bolognese ‘slaps’ as the youths would say. You could go so far as to say I simp for it. With three Buco locations doted around the Edmonton area, you won’t have any excuse to skip this dish.
Egg Yolk Ravolio, Bar Bricco
Burnt butter, boschetto al tartufo, sage and grana. Sometimes good things come in small packages – these tasty pockets of love from Bar Bricco always leave me craving more. As an added bonus, this member of the Corso 32 Group is situated right next door to Uccellino.
Fettuccine Chianti, Chianti
Fettuccine with prosciutto ham, mushrooms and cheese sauce. Despite having once been dumped in this restaurant in Old Strathcona, I will still happily sit at the same table and chow down on this mainstay dish. Some things are classics for a reason.
